Samsung announced its flagship smartphones for its “S” lineup. The Samsung S10, S10+ and S10 E. And this is my initial impressions on the smartphones.
Samsung announced four smartphones during its “Unfold” event yesterday. The Samsung S10 which competes against iPhone XS, the Samsung S10+ which competes against iPhone XS Max and Samsung S10E which competes against iPhone XR.
Much like Apple’s strategy, S10 starts at $899 and S10+ starts at $99. Much like iPhone XS and XS Max they both offer best specifications that Samsung has got. While the S10E like the iPhone XR does not have all the latest tech like S10 and costs lower starting at $749.
You can learn more about S10 E here. For now lets look at S10 and S10+.
Initial impression, that is a gorgeous piece of tech out there. With glass back ( some models have ceramic back), metal rails and the new “Infinity-O” display that phone is a beauty. Apart from White and Black, it also comes in Pink, Blue, Yellow and Green colour options.
Looking at the display, Samsung for years now has got the best display on smartphones and this phone is not an exception. The AMOLED display is sharp and saturated. Looks like Samsung has finally embraced the notch. Much like the renders and leaks, the notch is the camera cutout over at the right. It is similar to the notch on the Honor phones. Apart from that there is screen everywhere. With more than 90% screen-body ratio, this is the best looking notched phone in my opinion.
The finger print scanner is now under the screen. But unlike One Plus, which has a camera like scanner under the screen which has to light up your finger in order to read it, Samsung has got an ultra sonic sensor. Difference ? It does not need to light up the screen in order to get an image of your finger instead, it sends tiny impulses and senses the response to get an image of your finger. This means the scanner can work even when the screen is off and the scanner is much faster than those on One Plus.
Camera has also got an upgrade. The back camera now has three sensors. One 12MP wide angle camera with OIS, another 12MP telephoto camera with OIS and another 16MP wide angle camera without OIS. In front, S10 has a single 10MP camera while the S10 + adds a 8MP depth sensor to the 10MP camera setup.
It has also got the same reverse slow wireless charging tech we have seen in Asus phones.
S10 starts at $899 and comes in two variants 8GB + 128GB storage or 8GB + 512 GB storage. The S10+ starts at $999 and comes in three variants 8GB + 128GB or 8GB + 512 GB or 12GB + 1TB storage. Yes you have heard it right. 12 GB of RAM. I don’t know why. But its there.
Lastly, the Galaxy S10+ comes with a 4,100mAh battery, while the Galaxy S10 packs a 3,400mAh battery and Galaxy S10e includes a 3,100mAh battery.
Prebooking starts on Flipkart in India. Pre-order is expected to launch shortly over at Flipkart while Samsung will start selling its smartphones from March 8.
